A one-page way to rebuild self-trust the only way it rebuilds: one small promise, kept, on the ordinary weeks too. Pick one, shrink it, give it a date, keep the record honest.
Somewhere back there, you started breaking small promises to yourself. Skip the workout, push the deadline, "next week." Each one felt tiny, but you were keeping score — and that score is why you don't quite believe your own plans anymore.
You can't think your way back to trusting yourself. You have to out-vote the record. This sheet is where the votes go.
Pick the thread, not a chore
The promise has to connect to the thing you actually want — not "floss" unless flossing is the fight. Ask: what's the two-minute version of the real thing I keep not doing? That's the candidate.
Shrink it until it's almost embarrassing
The test: would this survive your worst week — sick kid, brutal deadline, no sleep? If not, it's not a promise, it's a bet on your best self showing up daily. She doesn't. Cut it in half until it passes.
Give it a when
A promise without a day and time is a wish. "I'll write for two minutes after I pour my coffee" beats "I'll write more" every single time, because your coffee doesn't negotiate.
Keep the record honest
Each day: kept, partly, or not yet — plus one honest sentence when it breaks. No self-flagellation; feeling bad is weirdly comfortable because it feels like accountability while changing nothing. The sentence is data, not penance.
Never miss twice
One miss is a data point. Two in a row is the old pattern re-installing itself. The recovery rule: after any miss, shrink the promise again and keep the smaller version the very next day. The streak matters less than the comeback.
Run one promise for one week before you add anything. The size of the promise was never the point — the vote is.
